Remember:

The children we educate today
will be responsible for
our quality of life in the future.

Zane D. Showker, former CEO SYSCO Food Service of Virginia, SVEE Charter Board Member, once said:

“Maybe we can’t do much about national problems, but we can start by doing our part for economic education right here at home. We need to educate our young students from K- 12 what economics and free enterprise is all about. We just can’t start too soon. This is a grassroots program working in our communities. It’s powerful.”

Chip Strickler, former CEO Rocco, SVEE Charter Board Member spoke:

“This program was begun in 1972 because we saw a need for students and teachers to know more about economics and the way that business really works. That need is just as important today, if not more so. The student who knows more about how business works is a more productive employee and a better citizen.”

You can help assure that they meet and exceed that challenge.

To My Friends in the Valley

To be good citizens and productive future employees, students need to learn about the American economic system. The example of Shenandoah Valley Economic Education shows how this important job can be done, joining business in a partnership with schools.

This is a good example of the private sector taking initiative to improve the quality of education.

When the business community of the Shenandoah Valley wanted more education on economics and free enterprise in the schools, it didn’t come to the government for funding. It took the initiative to combine the resources of the local schools and the business community to get the job done. SVEE’s initiative illustrates how better education is promoted by active local communities, not by more government programs.
